A person pushes on a stationary 125 N box with a force of 93N at 30 degrees below the horizontal. The coefficient of static friction between the box and the horizontal floor is 0.76.  what is the normal force on the box?  what is the friction force on the box? what is the largest the friction force could be? the person now replaces his push with a 93N pull at 30degrees above the horizontal. Find the normal force on the box in this case.

what is the friction force on the box?

what is the largest the friction force could be?

the person now replaces his push with a 93N pull at 30degrees above the horizontal. Find the normal force on the box in this case.

Expert Solution
Step 1

The force that restricts the motion of one surface relative to another with which it is in contact is called friction. For a body that is resting on a surface, there is normal contact force, between the body and surface. If a horizontal force is applied to the body to make it move, there will be an equal frictional force in the opposite direction, resisting the motion  until it reaches the limiting value. When the applied force exceeds this, the body will start to move.

The free-body diagram of the box is given below to understand the forces acting on it.
