A phosphate solution [sp. gr. = 1.3, Cp = 0.757 BTU/(lbm. °R), μgc = 2.9 lbm/(ft.hr), kf = 0.3 BTU/(hr.ft.°R)] is used in the production of fertilizer. The solution is to be cooled from 150°F to 140°F using well water, available at 55°F. The phosphate solution flows at a rate of 7000 lbm/hr and has a dirt factor of 0.001 hr ft. °R/BTU. Select an appropriate exchanger and analyze it completely.

Question

Hi, I was practicing for an upcoming fluid thermal exam when I came across this question in my book. I'm a little confused by it though cause we can't get all of the properties for a phosphate solution since it isn't in the table of economic velocities. This is from the 2nd edition if the "Design of Fluid thermal Systems" textbook by William S. Janna. Anyways, I'm confused about where to start and where to go with this problem since I probably need the velocity to solve it. The water properties can be interpolated for however, so there isn't a problem there. If you are able to solve this problem for me so I can see how it's done, that would be amazing!

A phosphate solution [sp. gr. = 1.3, Cp = 0.757 BTU/(lbm. °R), μgc = 2.9
lbm/(ft.hr), kf = 0.3 BTU/(hr.ft.°R)] is used in the production of fertilizer. The

55°F. The phosphate solution flows at a rate of 7000 lbm/hr and has a dirt
factor of 0.001 hr ft. °R/BTU. Select an appropriate exchanger and analyze it
completely.
