Compare and contrast Mitosis and Meiosis:-stages-functions -where do they occur-products-ect.

Compare and contrast Mitosis and Meiosis:

-where do they occur

Step 1

There are two types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is a part of the cell cycle where replicated chromosomes are separated into two new nuclei. This type of cell division gives rise to daughter cells, each having the same number of chromosomes as the parent nucleus. Meiosis is the type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, creating four haploid cells, each genetically distinct from the parent.

Step 2

The similarities between mitosis and meiosis are as follows:

1. Both mitosis and meiosis are types of cell division where one parent cell gives rise to more than one daughter cell.

2. Both the processes result in duplication of chromosomes.

3. Both mitosis and meiosis involve breakdown of the nuclear membrane.

4. Mitosis and meiosis goes through four basic phases: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.

5. Both the processes require spindle fibres to move the chromosomes around.

6. The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell during both mitosis and meiosis.

Step 3

The differences between mitosis and meiosis are ...
