There can be complete oxidation and incomplete oxidation., In complete oxidation, the substrates are oxidized completely In incomplete oxidation, substrates are not oxidized totally.
Respiration can be oxygen-dependent and oxygen-independent on the basis of the presence of oxygen.
If respiration is oxygen-dependent then it is called aerobic respiration. In aerobic respiration, electrons are accepted by the oxygen. There is complete oxidation of respiratory products such as carbohydrates and the end product is formed is carbon dioxide and water.
The end products of aerobic respiration are carbon dioxide, water, and energy(ATP). The energy is used by the cell to perform other functions of the cell. 38 ATP molecules are formed by the oxidation of glucose molecules.
