Question

Define the term Shop Drawings?

Expert Solution
Step 1 Shop drawings:

A shop drawing is a drawing required by a construction contract to be submitted by the contractor to the architect for compliance with the design intent. A shop drawing is a drawing or set of drawings produced by the contractor, supplier, manufacturer, subcontractor, consultants or fabricator. Shop drawings are typically required for prefabricated components, which provide the details of various components that help in the construction of a project.

Construction shop drawings are the actual detail of all manufactured or fabricated items, indicate proper relation to adjoining work, amplify design details of equipment in proper relation to physical spaces in the structure, and incorporate minor changes of design or construction to suit actual conditions.

Shop drawing requirements are different for different projects. Based on the kind of project, the type of property and the budget requirements, shop drawings include varied electrical drawing, mechanical drawing and plumbing drawing.
