Contribution of enzyme to metabolic processes:

  • Breakdown of macromolecules into micro molecules
  • Movement of molecules in various parts of the body
  • Formation of macromolecules from micro molecules
  • Storage and release of energy
  • Cellular respiration processes
  • Synthesis of essential molecules for normal functioning
  • Replication, transcription, and translation that in turn produces proteins for metabolic processes

Role of enzyme as catalysts:

Enzymes are biocatalysts and they alter the rate of the chemical reaction. They do so by increasing or decreasing the speed of the reaction. They combine with reactants to form the product but at the end of the reaction they remain unaltered.
