The human eye which is spherical in shape helps to see any kinds of objects surrounding nature. The objects are visible because of the light getting reflected from their surfaces. This reflected light enters into the eyes and can be seen. Among all the main structure retina and optic nerve plays a major role for neural signal transmission through some sensitive photoreceptor cells known as Rods and Cones. Rod cells are sensitive to dim light and cone cells are sensitive to bright light.
In the retina part, there are five kinds of receptor cells which are photoreceptors, horizontal cells, bipolar cells, amacrine cells, and retinal ganglion cells. Photoreceptor which is mainly rods and cones absorbs light first and then the signals propagate out towards the retinal ganglion cells. The transmitted signal then continues along the axon from retinal ganglion cells to leave the eye and goes to the optic nerve. Now the optic nerve passes the signal in the form of the action potential through the lateral geniculate nuclei, found in the thalamus, and then continues all the way to a region of the brain called the primary visual cortex.
