Expert Solution
Step 1

Sigmund Fraud is the father of psychoanalytic theory. This theory explains different types of defense mechanisms. It includes reaction formation, repression, projection, regression, rationalization, sublimation, and displacement. Repression is defined as the conscious awareness and idea about what is acceptable and what is unacceptable behavior. Projection is showing unacceptable behaviors showing towards others. Regression is about coping with very stressful situations. Sublimation decreases anxiety. In this situation, the person lost his belief in his religion and decided to convert to another religion. This is a displacement defense mechanism in psychoanalytic theory.
