In the field of fluid dynamics, rotating or circulation of fluid are known as Eddy and they create a current in the reverse direction if the fluid is in the category of turbulent flow.

The formation of Eddy occurs when the flowing fluid encounter any obstacle in its way, in such cases the layer of fluid near the surface of the obstacle is almost at rest and the outer layers of the fluid move relatively faster. This difference in the velocities between fluid layers creates void and fluid curls around the edge of the obstacle and some of the fluids flow in the reverse direction(upstream).
