Answer : Adaptation is an important survival skill in all species. Adaptations are changes an organism undergoes to fit different surroundings. If an organism is not able to evolve over time to suit its environment it may eventually become extinct. Body shape is also an important adaptation in fish. Various categories of body shape are found in fishes as follows with examples : 

1. fusiform - typical fish form (think torpedo) - example - Tuna, swordfish

2. elongate - long and low body - example - common sandeel

3. anguilliform (highly elongate) and snake-like - Moray eel, Conger eel

4. compressed - flattened laterally - Butterflyfish

5. depressed - flattened dorsoventrally - Southern Stingray

6. globose or globiform – globe-like - pufferfish
