Radiation is a form of energy, either in the form of particles or waves, that are emitted from a source and travels through empty space or through penetrating a medium.

Radiations can either be ionizing or non-ionizing.

Non-ionizing radiations are those that are produced by stable atoms. Light, radio waves, microwaves, etc., are some examples of non-ionizing radiations.

Ionizing radiations, on the other hand, are produced by unstable atoms with excess energy. These radioactive atoms produce charged ions in order to reach its stability. Electromagnetic radiations, X-rays, Gamma rays are some examples of ionizing radiations.
