Question
Give six (6) examples of adaptation. (The definition of adaptation is in the picture)
Adaptation
It refers a change or the process of change by which organism or
species becomes better suited to its environment. Adaptations enhance
the fitness and survival of individuals. Organisms face a succession of
environmental challenges as they grow and develop and are equipped with
an adaptive plasticity as the phenotype of traits develop in response to the
imposed conditions. The developmental norm of reaction for any given
trait is essential to the correction of adaptation as it affords a kind of
biological insurance or resilience to varying environments.
Adaptation is not something simple. Though it is easy at it seems,
the truth is, it is not always easy to adapt to an environment. An organism
must be physically fit and viable at all stages of its development evolution
to be able to survive. All organisms, even human, have adaptation traits
that help them to survive their environment. These adaptive traits may be
structural, behavioral or physiological. Structural adaptations are
physical features of an organism such as shape, body covering, armament;
and even the internal organizations. Behavioral adaptations,
meanwhile, are composed inherited behavior chains and/or the ability to
learn. Physiological adaptations on the other hand, permit the
organism to perform special functions like making venom (in the case of
snakes and the like), secreting slime, phototropism; and more general
functions such as growth and development, temperature regulation, and
ionic balance. This means that adaptation is making adjustments to
decisions and activities in order to manage risks and capture potential
opportunities brought about by any changes in the environment such as
global warming and climate change.
