The blood is a body fluid, which forms a part of the human circulatory system. The blood in humans is composed of blood cells which are suspended in the blood plasma. It is responsible for delivery and removal of necessary substances from the cells making up all the tissues and organs of the body.
The blood circulating through the circulatory system is responsible for the transport of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, and removal of carbon dioxide and toxic metabolic waste from the cells. Hence, the blood is responsible for providing proper nourishment. Apart from this, blood is also responsible for carrying the various hormones secreted by the glands to their target organs, maintaining optimal body pH, fighting against pathogens as a part of humoral immunity, and maintenance of homeostasis.
