How do the activation energy and the energy of reaction determine if a chemical process is endothermic or exothermic?

Activation energy is the minimum amount of energy required to start a reaction.  Every reaction should possess some energy equivalent to activation energy for the reaction to take place.

Energy of the reaction is the amount of energy involved in the reaction for the reaction to take place. Energy of reaction can be the amount of energy added or the amount of energy released during a reaction.
