The body system that regulates the activities of other body systems like the digestive system, respiratory system, excretory system, and endocrine system via its branches is known as the nervous system. The nervous system is divided into central and peripheral nervous systems (CNS and PNS). The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system's components, while the autonomic and somatic nervous systems (ANS and SNS) represent the PNS.
The peripheral nervous system contains the nerves which extend to the body's outermost areas from the central nervous system. They help the central nervous system to receive and send the information to various parts of the body, facilitating the body's reaction to external stimuli. The ANS connects CNS specifically to the involuntary smooth and cardiac muscles lying in various regions of the body and to internal organs. PNS connects the CNS to both the involuntary and voluntary muscles and the various body organs like lungs, heart, intestine, blood vessels, kidney, urinary bladder, and stomach. Thus, the CNS receives information from the body for processing and sends the processed signal to the various body organs via nerves, which are components of the peripheral and autonomic nervous system.
