There is an essential mechanism known as blood clotting that prevents excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is broken. It developed the clot around the blood vessel. Platelets and some proteins play an important role in this mechanism.
A platelet plug is the initial stage of platelets' aggregation in response to injury of blood vessels. It is also known as platelet thrombus. The platelet plug begins the collection of all the factors leading up to the blood clot. It is like a net to catch all the materials needed for a blood clot to form. When everything is together, the blood clot will form. So blood clotting is the final step of hemostasis where the semisolid mass is formed.
