How to respond to this in 100 words? The organization that I will be using for this project is our very own Bethel University. I was a student athlete my entire life, so Bethel has been my one and only employer thus far. I am currently the Graduate Assistant for the women’s basketball team here on campus, but I just recently got offered the head assistant position. I am waiting for our current assistants’ contract to end in April, then I will be hired in his current position. Bethel stands out above other Universities because of what it has to offer in the classroom, the amount of athletics that are offered, and the renaissance program on campus is a very well-known program. In 2023, Bethel was one of nine Tennessee higher education institutions listed in Money Magazine’s 2023 list of the Best Colleges in America. This is quite an accolade for a smaller university competing with some of the most well-known universities. Being named within this magazine goes to show just how much time and hard work that the individuals within this university have put in, from the faculty and staff to the students. ““Quality” is a key to success to any product or service. Overall, perception about quality in the field of higher education is related to an overall judgment made by the customers related to the excellence (or conformance with the promised specifications or expectations) of the transactions a university delivers” (Hossain et al., 2018, pg. 148). In order to have success, an organization has to have the right people that are willing to make sacrifices and help those around them. Universities do not excel with mediocre professors or leaders. “The effective university is one that helps students transform their knowledge. There can be no excellence without changes in understanding. Changing understanding cannot be achieved by imparting information alone, whether we use the most modern technology or simple chalk-and-talk” (Ramsden, 1998, pg. 12). Bethel has been around for quite some time and that goes to show that no matter the situation, the leaders within this university seem to always come along and make the right decisions to help the university stay on top. Now, in saying that, I do not want to sound contradictory with my next statement. While Bethel has many accolades and has achieved great things during its existence, there have been times when this university has not always had the best financials, and it is currently struggling in different areas financially. As an employee that puts in regular weekly hours, it is unacceptable in my opinion to not get paid for doing your job. Bethel needs to fix their financials by making better decisions with their money. While we have been at a standstill about hiring a president, I really hope that the new hire is able to turn this situation around. I want to improve Bethels leadership and their decisions about the income within this institution. It is evident that some of our previous leaders did not make the best financial decisions and that has to change in order for this university to continue to shine and be successful. “In moments of crises, the leader, who plans and implements new strategic ways to respond to the crises in an effective way. It is the leader who is responsible for every error inside the faculties and among the staff. The crucial point of having leadership in higher education is its power on the community. It is the education that improves and develops people for having a good organizational culture inside an educational system that guaranteeing the formation of innovation, productivity, and accomplishments for the country. Higher educational leadership significantly and directly affects the staff and students” (Toker, 2022, pg. 233).
