Work breakdown structure can be defined as an organized methodology that is used to split an overall project into non overlapping components and identify the deliverables for each of the components. Depending on the project, multiple level are created. At the lowest level, specific work packages and the nature of the resource required to complete each work package are clearly identified.
Work breakdown structure serve the important task of providing a clarified view of the activities to be performed in a project and provides the reference for estimating the activity duration, network representation of the project, planning, monitoring and control. It helps in understanding the interaction among the activities and the need to manage the interface points as there exists a progress in the project.
