In the endocrine system, it asks, "describe the two major mechanisms by which hormones bring about their effect on their target tissues?"

I was thinking it was polar and non polar soluble because that's the major component when it comes to how cells react to their hormones, it determines how fast the reaction time.

Step 1

The hormones are the chemical substances secreted by an organ and transferred through the blood or other body fluids to the target tissues. There are two types of hormones based on their solubility, lipid-soluble hormones and the water soluble hormones.

All the hormones are detected by specialized receptors present in the cell or on the cell membrane.

Step 2

The mechanism of the action of hormone depends on the chemical nature of the hormone and the site, where its receptor is located. The two major mechanisms by which the hormones work is listed below:

  1. The lipid soluble hormones such as the steroid hormones and the hormones of the thyroid gland can pass through the cell membrane, and their receptors are located in the nuclear membrane or in the cytoplasm. These hormones have the efficiency to regulate the gene expression. Hence, they...
