Know how
The organisms of the kingdom Fungi are multicellular and heterotrophic, and they can be broadly divided into four divisions. These heterotrophic organisms, just like animals, derive energy by utilizing complex organic compounds rather than fixing atmospheric carbon or nitrogen like plants. The uniqueness of fungi lies in their mode of obtaining nutrients; unlike animals, fungi firs digest and then ingest food. At first, the hyphae's cells secrete exoenzymes, which digests and breaks down complex food into small and simple forms of nutrients. These small molecules of nutrients formed due to external digestion are absorbed by the fungi, and this absorption occurs through the mycelium's large surface area.
