Liquid hexane will react with gaseous oxygen to produce gaseous carbon dioxide and gaseous water. Suppose 38.8 g of hexane is mixed with 59 g of oxygen. Calculate the maximum mass of carbon dioxide that could be produced by the chemical reaction. Make sure your answer has the correct number of significant digits.

38.8 no of moles of hexane 84 -0.4619 mol 59 no of moles of oxygen=- 16 3.6875 mol

Step 3

2 moles of hexane react with 19 moles of oxygen

0.4619 moles of hexane would require 0.4619x9.5 4.38805 mol therefore oxygen is a limiting reagent one mole of oxygen would require 19 2 -x 3.6875 19 3.6875 moles would require =0.38815 mol
