Bearing selection is a crucial step in the design of gear reduction system. You work for a machinery
design company and your role is to analyse and design the gear reduction system on a new line of
farming equipment. Your manager asked you to select the appropriate cylindrical roller bearing that
satisfies the load rating of the existing application, where the shaft design engineers calculated reactions
on the right side of the shaft to be Ry = 183.1 lbf and R2 =-861.5 lbf.
The gear reduction system shaft is designed to rotate at 1200 rev/min, with a desired bearing life of 15
kh at a 95 percent reliability in each bearing, assuming distribution data from manufacturer 2 in Table
11-6. Use an application factor of 1.2.
(a) Obtain a Basic Dynamic Load Rating for a cylindrical roller bearing at the right end.
(b) Use an online bearing catalogue of SKF and NSK to fill out the data sheet below for the indicated
bearing types that satisfies the needed Basic Load Rating and the geometry requirements.
