Expert Solution
Step 1

Given that,

Moles of S atom in SO3 sample is= 5.29 mol

From Avogadro’s law, 1 mol of SO3 sample will have 1 mol S and 3 moles of O-atoms.

[Also, from given data of molar masses, it can be confirmed that:

1 mole SO3 =80.058 g

1 mol S= 32.066 g

3 mol O =3×15.999 g =47.997

Adding the two values : 1 mol S+ 3 mol O = 32.066 g+ 47.997 g= 80.063 g (molar mass of SO3 )

The difference between the two molar masses are:

80.063 g-80.058g =0.005 g

which is very very less than 1 %  (0.8 g) of the original molar mass, and so it can be ignored.

Thus, it is proved that 1 mol of SO3 has 1 mol S and 3 mol O-atoms.]

Hence,

 The moles of SO3 = mole of S-atom = 5.29 mol
