I already solved these problems.  Please help me with the formula involving a,b,c,d guarantees that this cubic polynomial has root at x=-1.

Also, please help me with the intervals for the inequality for problem 2.  The solutions that I have are x=b+1 and x=b-1.  If I use b=1, then x=2 and x = 0.  Are the intervals [0,2] and [2, infinity].  How do I show to satify these intervals?  Thank you!
