TO BE CLEAR: I asked this question before, but it was rejected since it was thought to be graded. IT IS NO LONGER WORTH ANY POINTS as I had too many incorrect attempts on my own.
This means it is not, in fact, graded, as I will get zero points for the problem now, regardless of if I try to understand it or not. However, this also means that I cannot know the right answer either, but I'd like to know how this is meant to be done in case it is on a test. Sorry for the misunderstanding, on to the question.
A picture of the problem is attached. I don't understand how I was supposed to do it. Could you show me, symbolically, how this is supposed to be done?
