Question

Relating to geotextiles (geofabrics), what is a significant difference in appearance and texture between the woven and nonwoven materials?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Geotextiles are defined as the textile structures which are permeable and made from polypropylene or polyester. They are of great use in civil engineering for filtration, drainage and separation of soil and water.

Step 2

Woven geotextile is a type of geotextile which is manufactured by blending and weaving fibers together on a loom, forming one uniform length. It is strong, suitable for applications like road construction and car parks, and can easily handle ground stabilization problems. The Ultra-Violet degradation can be resisted by woven geotextiles and are considered suitable for long-term applications. Their permeability is comparatively low and separation against fines is not offered by them.

Their tensile strength and strain which is the resistance to tension failure is measured for measurement of woven geotexiles.
