Resistances values in ohms are listed below. They were obtained from a measurement of a bought set; in one set the exact resistance values will vary do to the tolerance on the manufacturing technique. 1. Plot a scatter plot of the data against data number. a. Limit the scale on the y-axis from 1000 to 1350. b. Include a line for the average of the data set with the outlier points. (To insert a line look for Insert and Shapes – lines are one of the options) c. A different color line for the average without the outlier points. d. A 3rd line to mark the median of the full data set.

Question

Resistances values in ohms are listed below. They were obtained from a measurement of a
bought set; in one set the exact resistance values will vary do to the tolerance on the
manufacturing technique.
1. Plot a scatter plot of the data against data number.
a. Limit the scale on the y-axis from 1000 to 1350.
b. Include a line for the average of the data set with the outlier points. (To insert a
line look for Insert and Shapes – lines are one of the options)
c. A different color line for the average without the outlier points.
d. A 3rd line to mark the median of the full data set.
e. Answer the following questions: Are there any outlier points? Does this set of
data has good repeatability?
2. Make a distribution histogram with a calculated the bin size (use h=5). Is the histogram
informative? (You might need to count how many of the resistor values fall in each bin.
Do not use the Histogram function from Excel.)
3. Make another histogram use a value of k of 25, and the first bin of less than 1100 and
the last bin greater than 1250.
a. Calculate the standard deviation for the data set. (use Excel functions)
b. Mark on the plot +- one standard deviation (draw a vertical line at those points –
look for insert line in Excel). (To find the location of the line take the average
and add or subtract one standard deviation)
c. Is this histogram more informative?
Make sure to paste the charts and the table from Excel into Word. Answer the questions in
Word.
Here is the data set:
1120 1122 1123 1135 1163 1164 1200 1165 1167 1156 1176 1167 1164 1300 1176 1173 1001
1169 1170 1181 1165 1187 1171 1180 1165 1450
