Why does -2(x+1)2+8 = 0,

From their why do we just take (x+1)2 and how is that just "+". 

To add on, how does x+1 = 2,

Then, from their why do we get x = +2 and -1

and how does that give me x = -3, 1.

Im sorry about all of the questions. During class when we were learning this I got overwhelmed due to the teacher moving so fast. I nver got a chance to ask her anything. I was completely clueless for this part.
