Proteins are the large, complex molecules present in each living cell and play vital role in structure and metabolism of a cell. Protein is composed of long chains of amino acid which combine to form  polypeptide chains. 

Step 2

The most important function of protein is that they act as enzymes. All enzymes are proteins except ribozymes. Enzymes are known as biological catalyst; they speed up all the chemical reactions in the cells like metabolism, DNA repair, replication, transcription.

Protein are also involved signal transduction and cell signaling like insulin hormone . Hormones play different roles in growth and development of body.
