Question

Stress can be related to strain. Explain by using experimental methods?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Internal stresses introduce due to the application of load in the material. The induces stress causes the change in the material in the form of strain. Thus he stress is related to the strain.

Step 2

The stress-strain relationship can be explained by the various experimental methods. One of which is explained below for understanding.

Tensile test of steel:

This test is used to analyse the stress and strain of metals. Also, used to find the maximum load that can be applied without failure.

In the test, A tensile load is applied in the material. Which induced the internal stress in the material and it start elongating. The graph between stress and strain is plotted to understand its behaviour toward failure.
