In plants Epidermis is the outermost layer that covers stem, roots, leaf , flower and other parts. It is a waxy cuticle that provide a protective barrier against mechanical injury, water loss, and infection. The cuticle gives surface of parts white and blue color. Epidermis consists of three main cell types that are- pavement cells, guard cells, and their subsidiary cells which surround the stomata and trichomes( leaf hairs). The epidermis of petals also forms a variation of trichomes which are called conical cells.
