The problem is to be done according to the AISC LRFD Method. All given loads are service loads unless otherwise indicated. Assume adequate lateral support of the compression flange such that lateral stability does not control. Assume all standard sections are equally readily available in the indicated grade of steel (even though actually they are not). A figure showing span and loading is required, and a final check of strength is required.

Problem:
For the case assigned, select the lightest W section to carry a uniformly distributed dead load wD in addition to the beam weight, and a uniformly live load wL as indicated. The member is simply supported and deflection is not of concern. 

The assigned case is Case 2.
