Three kids are puling a tire parallel to the floor. These forces are represented as vectors shown in the figure which is an overview. The first kid exerts a force F= 100N while the second kid pulls the tire with F2 = 85 N where the angle between F and F2 is 135°. Suppose the third kid pulls the tire with F, = 95 N, 28° W of S, find the total force (magnitude and direction) acting on the tire. N F E F S

Considering the wind, where will the Stargate Ship make a landfall?
Assume that each square represents 1 kilometer. Relative to the starting point,
į What is the horizontal displacement of the ship?
ii. What is the vertical displacement of the ship?
iii. What is the magnitude of the total displacement of the ship?

1. The Stargate Ship and its crew are about to cross the Caribbean Sea. The ship can sail 8
squares a month. Starting from O and travelling west, draw one vector on the figure
below for each month of travel using your blue pencil or pen (i.e., draw several 8-square-
long vectors until you reach land).
In what country will the Stargate Ship make a landfall?
How many months will it take to reach land?

2. Unfortunately, the ship encounters wind in different directions. It does not always blow
the way the crew wants. To determine how the wind influences the ship's travel, include
a wind vector.
1. Draw a ship vector (an 8-square long vector) just like in part 1 using your blue pencil
or pen
2. At the end of that vector, add the wind vector using your red pencil or pen.
3. Draw the resulting vector with your black pencil or pen. Remember to use the "head-
to-tail" method.
4. Do the same for the next month and the month after that until the ship reaches land.
5. Remember that the wind changes, so each month you will have to add a different wind
vector. The different winds for each month are listed below.
Month 1: 2 squares, south
Month 2: 4 diagonal squares, southeast
Month 3: 3 diagonal squares, northwest
Month 4: 5 diagonal squares, northwest
Month 5: 4 squares, north
Month 6: 10 squares, east
6. Use the figure below for your vector diagram.
