Question

Use Avogadro’s law equation to solve the given problems.

What will be the final volume ( V2 ) of a 5.00 liters Helium gas which contains 0.965 mole of at 300C if the
amount of this gas is increased to 1.80 moles provided that temperature and pressure remains
unchanged?

AVOGADRO'S LAW states that the volume of a gas is directly proportional to the number of moles of gas
present at a given temperature and pressure. As the volume of gas increases/ decrease the number of moles of
gas also increases/ decreases. So, V/ n = k. in equation V,/ n;= V2/ n2 or
Vin2 = V2n1
Sample Problem:
1. A balloon has been filled to a volume of 2.5 L with 0.092 mole of helium gas. If 0.021 mole of helium is
added to the balloon, what is the new volume ( V2) of the balloon at constant temperature and pressure?
Given : Vi= 2.5 L
Formula :
Solution :
Answer :
ni = 0.092
n2 = 0.021
Unknown : V2= ?
V2 - Vi n2 + n1
V2 = ( 2.5 L )( 0.021 ) + 0.092
V2 = 0.57 L
