Mycorrhizae defined as the mutual beneficial relationship between root of a plant and fungus i.e colonizes the plant root. In many plant mycorrhizae are the fungi that grows inside the plant roots or on the surface of plant roots. As fungus facilitates the water and nutrient uptake in the plant and plant provides food and nutrient to the fungus with the help of photosynthesis.

Intracellularly or extracellularly fungus colinzies the host plants root tissue and this is called as mycorrhizal association.
