Expert Solution
Introduction:

Water pollution is defined as "the addition or presence of undesirable substances to/in water, such as organic, inorganic, biological, radiological, or thermal contaminants, which deteriorate the quality of water to the point where it is unfit for use."

Mineral leaching from rocks (due to natural solubility and solubility caused by acid rain), soil erosion, and organic matter decay are all natural sources of water contamination.

There are both point and non-point causes of pollution:

Point source pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged from a specific site, a drain pipe transporting industrial effluents dumped directly into a body of water, for example.
Non-point sources, on the other hand, include pollution discharged from diffused sources or across a greater region, such as runoff from agricultural fields, grazing grounds, construction sites, abandoned mines and pits, and so on.
