What are the steps in the scientific method; what is the purpose of each step?

It is a series of processes that make people gather knowledge, improving that knowledge and by gaining knowledge people make attempts to explain how things happen or why things are happening. The steps of scientific method vary depending on sources but the basic concept is gaining knowledge by conducting experiments and observing their results.
