What factors affect the blood supply to myocardial tissue?
The myocardial tissue is formed by the cardiac muscles. The cardiac muscles are one of three types of muscular tissue found in the human that are solely responsible for the formation of the heart. The cardiac muscles show striation and are involuntary. The heart is the major organ of the cardiovascular tissue that is responsible for rhythmic pumping of blood into various body parts. Since the heart tissue is formed by involuntary muscles, the action potential responsible for contraction and pumping of the heart is initiated in the specialized cells of the heart called pacemaker cells.
The heart is located slightly toward the left side of the breastbone. The size of the heart is approximately equivalent to the size of fist. It is a four chambered structure. The two upper chambers are called right atrium and left atrium, whereas the two lower chambers are called right ventricle and left ventricle. The flow of blood in each chamber is regulated by the presence of the valves in the chamber. They act as one-way inlets and outlets for blood entering into and leaving form the ventricles, respectively. The human heart comprises four valves: tricuspid valve; pulmonary valve; mitral valve; and aortic valve.
