What is reduction division, and why is it necessary in production of gametes?
Gametes are referred to as the reproductive cells produced by the reproductive system of the body in an organism. The fusion of gametes in sexual reproduction causes the formation of a zygote. The gametes in males are sperm and in female is an egg.
The reductional cell division is called meiosis, this reductional division is important for the production of a gamete to regulate the number of chromosomes in the cell. As the fertilization occurs the fusion of two gametes will cause a double number of chromosomes in the offspring. As reductional division occur several chromosomes are half in gametes concerning the normal cells and when the fusion occurs for the formation of a zygote the number of chromosomes becomes equal to that of other cells in the body that gives rise to healthy offspring.
