Question

What is the main way in which a plant grows

Expert Solution
Step 1

Any living system needs nutrients and cell division to grow. Plants also grow because of these two factors. They grow throughout their life time. Cell division multiplies the number of cells and cell growth increases the size of the cell.

Step 2

Plants get the nutrients by the process of photosynthesis. By this process, the plants form food in the form of glucose. Glucose provides plant energy. Moreover, the cell division (mitosis) and cell growth help in the growth of the plant. By the process of mitosis, the cell divides and the size of the plant increases. In plants, meristem is a tissue that contains the undifferentiated cell. These cells differentiate when the plants need them. After differentiation, they undergo cell division.
