Question

What is the molarity of a 3.00% (m/v) solution of C13H18ClNO?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Since %(m/v) is defined as

% (m/v) = mass of solute in g X 100 / volume of solution in mL

Assuming the volume of solution is 100 mL

=> mass of solute (C13H18ClNO) = % (m/v) X volume of solution in mL / 100 = 3 X 100 / 100 = 3 g

Since molar mass of C13H18ClNO = 239.74 g/mol approx

Hence moles of C13H18ClNO = mass / molar mass = 3 / 239.74 = 0.0125 approx
