Question

What is the sister group to Innovatiocaris maotianshanensis?

The phylogeny shows that some named groups are not monophyletic. For each of the following groups, state whether it is monophyletic:

Hurdia - YES OR NO

Hurdidae- YES OR NO

Lyrarapax- YES OR NO

Amplectobelua- YES OR NO

Amplectobeluidae- YES OR NO

Anomalocaris- YES OR NO

Radiodonts are extinct predatory arthropods that terrorized the oceans in the early Paleozoic. Last
year, Han Zeng, Fangchen Zhao, and Maoyan Zhu described Innovatiocaris maotianshanensis, a
new species of radiodont based on early Cambrian fossils from Chengjiang, China (Journal of the
Geological Society 180:164). Their reconstruction of the animal is shown below.
They used data from a large number of fossils to infer a phylogeny, using the maximum parsimony
approach. The numbers at each node represent three different measures of statistical support, and
the starburst marks the node that is the common ancestor of all radiodonts. Use this phylogeny to
answer the following questions.
