Nerve cells (neurons) are the basic functional unit of the nervous system. Neurons help in a cell to cell communications by receiving and transmitting an electric signal. 

The structure at the arrow is the dendrite and the direction of the nerve impulse.

Dendrite

The structure of neurons consists of a cell body and extension fiber dendrite and axons. 

Dendrites receive the nerve impulse (signal) which is passed down the soma to the axon. From the axon terminal, the nerve signals are transmitted to the dendrites of other neurons through a synapse.

So, the direction of nerve impulse is from dendrites to the cell body and then to the axon terminal. A nerve signal travels in this direction and does not flow in opposite direction.
