An adrenal gland is made of two main parts: The adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla. The adrenal cortex is the outer most region and the largest part of an adrenal gland. It is divided into three separate zones: zona glomerulosa, zona fasciculata and zona reticularis responsible for producing respective hormones. The adrenal medulla is located inside the adrenal cortex in the center of an adrenal gland. It produces stress hormones including adrenaline necessary for flight and fight response. They are surrounded by adipose capsule that forms a protective layer around an adrenal gland. Producing too little or too much of certain hormones, leads to hormonal imbalances that will consequently have some disorders to suffer.
