What produces the wet underside of a glacier, which enables it to slip down elevated regions?

Glacier are very heavy in terms of weight. Their weight crushes the bottom layer of the glacier and produces water beneath glacier. Since, the density of water is higher than density of ice, due to which the glacier slides on the water.
