Why is the color blindness gene still common in today's population?
Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction:
Color blindness: It is a genetic disease caused due to mutations on the X-chromosome. color blindness is caused by a fairly common X-linked recessive gene. Color blindness is more numbers in males than females as males have only one X-chromosome which expresses its character but in females presence of two X-chromosomes mutations in one chromosome is suppressed by second X-chromosome.
The difference in X-chromosome characters can be seen in the decreased number of light-sensitive cells found in the retina of the eye. These cells are called cones that sense wavelengths of light and enable the retina to distinguish between colors.
