The loss-of-function mutations are also known as inactivating mutations that result in the gene product with less or no function. The complete loss of function of allele is called an amorphic mutation. The phenotype associated with these mutations is generally recessive. The exception occurs in the case of the haploid organism when the gene product reduced dosage is not enough to produce the normal phenotype.
