What is the white smoke that can be given off from copper-zinc brazing alloy?
The white smoke which is given off from copper-zinc brazing alloys.
Copper-Zinc alloys is one of the most popular brazing alloys. These alloys are non-fuming alloys. The zinc in the alloys has the property that it burns out when the metal gets overheated. This overheat can be identified as the red glow on the molten pool which emits the white smoke. The white smoke is zinc oxide and is very toxic. If this white smoke of zinc oxide is breathed in it may lead to zinc poisoning, so, proper protection is absolutely necessary.
In order to avoid this white smoke, low fuming alloys are used.
The metal which is made by combining two or more metallic elements, or one metallic element and one non-metallic element. The metal so formed by the combination of two materials in which at-least one element is metal is known as the alloy...
