Sliding filament model of muscle contraction is also called cross-bridge theory. It involves the actin and myosin proteins where the head of myosin filament attaches to actin filament forming the cross bridge. The contraction and relaxation of these muscles help in muscle contraction.

Explanation

The muscle contraction uses sliding filament mechanism for its movement. It involves movement of thin actin filaments and thick myosin filament. Thin filament on each side of sarcomere slides over the thick filaments toward the center of A-band, which brings Z-lines closer to each other. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) attached to the thick myosin cross bridge is hydrolyzed and causes it to bend and bind to actin of thin filament...
