Explanation of Solution

The given reaction is,

HClO4(aq)+Mg(OH)2(s)

The above equation represents the reaction of aqueous perchloric acid with solid magnesium hydroxide which is an acid-base titration. The product obtained is aqueous magnesium perchlorate. The balanced equation for the above reaction is written in such a way that the number of atoms in both the reactant and product side remains equal in number with each other. Thus, the balanced equation can be written as follows,

2HClO4(aq)+Mg(OH)2(s)Mg(ClO4)2(aq)+2H2O(l)

The above reaction involves the formation of ions as well. That is the reaction proceeds via formation of ions given the fact that magnesium hydroxide is a strong base and thus gets dissociated in aqueous medium. Being a strong acid perchloric acid also gets dissociated
